This Galle to Ella road trip takes you on one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic inland drives, climbing from the coast at Galle into the tea-covered hills around Ella. Along the way you stop at a roadside waterfall, the Ravana Rock viewpoint, and the Nine Arch Bridge, arriving in Ella with time to explore the town.
The Galle to Ella road trip covers about 170 kilometres through Udawalawe and Wellawaya before climbing into tea country. It takes around six to seven hours with stops, longer than a straight transfer, because most travellers want time at a waterfall, at the Ravana Rock viewpoint, and at the Nine Arch Bridge along the way.
This private one-way transfer suits anyone relocating from the south coast to the hill country rather than doing a round trip. If you only want to see the bridge and return to Galle the same day, our Nine Arch Bridge Experience covers that instead. You can read more about the route on our Galle to Ella rides page.

A day on this road trip takes you from Galle’s coast into Sri Lanka’s cool hill country, with plenty to see along the way:
Your driver collects you around 7:00 AM for the drive northeast through Udawalawe toward the hill country.
A short stop at a scenic roadside waterfall for photos and a stretch break as the road starts to climb.
Stop at Ravana Rock for wide views over the Ella valley, one of the best photo spots on the route.
Park near Ella and walk through tea fields to see the Nine Arch Bridge, timed where possible around a train crossing.
The transfer ends in Ella town, usually by early afternoon, with time to check into your accommodation and explore.
Pickup starts around 7:00 AM from your hotel or guesthouse in Galle town, and this pickup is free. If you are staying in Mirissa, Unawatuna, or Colombo, we can still collect you; see our airport and long-distance transfer page for details and rates.
Bring a light jacket for Ella’s cooler evenings, comfortable shoes for the short walks at each stop, and your camera for the viewpoints along the way. Since this is a one-way transfer, let us know in advance if you need help booking accommodation in Ella.
