You can also visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home (ETH) to see baby elephants being bottle-fed during the daily feeding sessions. After the safari, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Galle—or continue on to Ella if you choose the hill-country drop-off option.

Arrive at the park entrance, where your driver takes care of all ticketing and entry formalities. Take a few minutes to freshen up or grab a tea before transferring into your private open-air 4×4 safari jeep. Meet your friendly tracker who knows the park’s terrain and wildlife patterns.
🚙 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM – Jeep Safari Adventure
Your 3.5-hour private safari through Udawalawe National Park begins. As the morning sun lights up the plains, keep your camera ready — elephants are usually active and visible around the reservoir. You’ll likely see herds of mothers and calves bathing or feeding. Your guide will also help spot buffalo, crocodiles, spotted deer, toque macaques, grey langurs, and a wide range of birdlife including peacocks, eagles, and kingfishers.
🐘 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM – Optional Visit to Elephant Transit Home (ETH)
If you choose, continue to the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, a rehabilitation center for orphaned baby elephants. The 12:30 PM milk feeding session is a heartwarming sight as the young elephants rush out of the forest for their meal before disappearing back into the wild.

After your safari or ETH visit, take a relaxed break for lunch at a local restaurant near the park. Enjoy authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry, or choose from international options.

After lunch begin your scenic journey back to Galle. If you’ve chosen the Ella drop-off option, your driver will take the picturesque route through Wellawaya and Ella Gap, where rolling hills and waterfalls create a perfect backdrop for your next destination.
